National Food for Work Programme

Launched on: 14 November 2004

Target People:  All rural poor who are prepared to do manual, unskilled labour.

  • Launched in 150 of the most backward districts of India with the objective of generating supplementary wage employment.
  •  Implemented as a centrally-sponsored scheme.
  • The collector is the primary officer at the district level and has overall responsibility
  • Food grains will also be provided to the states free of cost. The transportation cost, handling charges, and taxes on food grains will, however, be responsibility of the States.
  • This program was merged with the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in February 2006.


Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana(PMAGY)

Launched on: 23 July 2010

Objective:  Integrated development of the selected villages so that they have all required physical and social infrastructure for an all round socio-economic development.

Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) was formally launched in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan in July 2010.
